Migration advice

The MIC has two qualified migration agents who can assist migrants experiencing financial hardship and newly arrived refugees residing in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne to sponsor their family members to come to Australia as temporary or permanent migrants.

Our migration agents can give advice, provide detailed information and help people to understand immigration processes in assisting family members overseas to migrate to Australia. Our services are free.

The MIC also receives funding from the Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP) under the Immigration Advice and Application Assistance Scheme (IAAAS) to provide assistance to protection visa applicants and non protection visa applicants to lodge their applications with DIBP and to provide migration advice for sponsors of a spouse or a family member. To be eligible for this service you need to live in the Eastern suburbs of Melbourne, be on a low income and have no disposable assets. In addition you need to meet one of the following criteria:

  • You do not speak English;
  • You cannot seek independent help because of youth or cultural difficulties such as gender;
  • You are illiterate in your native language and/or principal language in your country of origin;
  • You have a physical or psychological disability, including as a result of past torture or trauma; or
  • You have suffered or are suffering physical or psychological harm resulting from domestic violence.

The two migration agents employed by the MIC are: Judy Zhu Registered Migration Agent Number 0001043 and Wanling Zhang Registered Migration Agent Number 9905017. The Code of Conduct for Migration Agents is available on the Migration Agents Registration Authority Web Site. To view the code of conduct please click here. Judy works full-time and speaks Mandarin and Cantonese. Wanling works one day per week and speaks Cantonese and Mandarin. Interpreters will be arranged for all other languages.
