Cultural and Religious Profiles

The Migrant Information Centre has researched and documented cultural profiles of communities residing in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne.

These cultural ‘snapshots’ provide information about migration patterns, demographic data, languages spoken, religion, attitudes to ageing, disabilities and mental illness, health beliefs and practices, values and customs, communication styles, naming conventions, greetings, festivals and significant dates and information about local ethno-specific services.

These profiles include migration, local demographic data in the Eastern Region, languages, religious practices including beliefs, worship, places of worship, religious/community leaders, icons, statues and symbols, scriptures, other laws and customs, clothing, food, Holy days, attitudes to ageing, disabilities and mental illness, health beliefs and practices, naming conventions, communication styles, the roles of men, women and the family, key festivals and significant dates and contact details for local services and religious centres.
